New Year, New Fit You
It's the time of year when gym attendance rises. The gym locals will see a variety of unfamiliar faces and possibly get frustrated with the amount of new recruits the gym has added. Perhaps it's this attitude that gives the gym somewhat of an uncomfortable atmosphere. It can be intimidating to walk in to the weight room and not know where to start. There are jokes about it every year how the gym clears out by February and the regulars can reclaim the equipment they were so reluctant to share. Perhaps this atmosphere contributes to the amount of people that do not return.
In most cases, when you join a gym, you are locked into a contract for at least a year. There is obviously a reason why. Most gyms are not built to accommodate all of its members, let alone half. They love those members that are paying their monthly membership fees and not attending, for obvious reasons. If you find yourself with a new gym membership, you don't have to get discouraged and give up your desire to create a healthier, fitter version of you. All you have to do is stay committed. If you are serious about your journey, there's plenty of information out there that can help. You can find instructional videos, beginner workout plans and probably even someone juggling cats, if that's what you're seeking. You can set yourself up with the resources to make your transformation a successful one. Practice basic exercise techniques and movements at home to better prepare yourself. Have a plan and don't get distracted. Don't try to keep up with anyone else, start at your own pace and progress as you become more proficient.
When in doubt, you can always ask for help. Be weary who you seek advice from. Just because a girl has the nicest body or a guy had the biggest muscles doesn't mean they know what they're doing. Moreover, don't look at what someone else is doing, then try and mimic them. You don't even know if they doing the exercise correctly or their purpose for performing the exercise. Seek advice from the professionals that have educated themselves in the field of fitness. Most gyms offer personal training and a complimentary session with a trainer, with your new membership. Take the session. If you feel like you can use more guidance, purchase additional sessions.
You will reach a point where you want to quit, you realize all of the hard work involved and remember the simple life before working out. The choice you make will determine your character. You can do some research, make that extra effort, alter your schedule and keep pushing yourself. You can become stronger and healthier. It's not just about exercising, it's about becoming someone that sets goals and sees them through. You won't just build a stronger body, you will build a stronger person.
